Student of the Month - October

We have selected our student of the month for October, and we are proud to announce that it is Ishan Ahmad!!

This is Ishan's second year in the program and he is doing a fantastic job!! Ishan is currently getting ready to take the National Retail Foundation exam to earn his course certificate.  Ishan is also currently audting the course Technology in American History on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.

Ishan is also very interested in weather and anything that has to do with meteorology.  He plans to pursue this interest to some degree next semester as he will be auditing another course and exploring different practicum opportunities.

We cannot say enough great things about Ishan and the progress he has made through the Career Studies program thus far.  We know that his future is very bright, and we cannot wait to see what amazing things he does with his life.

Congratulations Ishan!  Keep up the great work!

Ishan's sidekick Miss Amy is a huge part of his success in this program.  We cannot thank her enough for all of her help!

Week Ten

Yet another fun week on campus this week.

On Tuesday we had our first session of the My Voice matters.  The students and peer mentors did a fantastic job participating and letting us know what they want to say and what plans they have for their own future.

On Wednesday the students were in class in the morning and then headed out to Chocolate World.  As the students become more and involved in their practicums, on campus, and with their peer mentors we are seeing less and less of them.  We are so proud of how much they are growing and becoming more independent.

Thursday wrapped up another great with with lots of Birthday celebrations.  Two of our students had birthdays on Thursday and one of our Peer Mentors had a birthday on Monday. It was a fun filled day with lots of singing and even more cake!!

May the dreams of your past,
become the reality of your future.

Halloween Party

This weekend one of our students was so kind and opened her home up to all of us for a Halloween Party.

It was so much fun seeing everyone outside of school.  The food was great, the costumes were awesome, and the company was even better!!

Thank you Tory and family for hosting a fabulous party!  Your hospitality is appreciated more than you know.  Until next year.. Happy Halloween!!

Week Nine

Penn State is constantly doing fun events on campus and offering the students tons and tons of free food.  We are lucky we all don't weight 500 pounds by now.

Tuesday there was a free BBQ lunch on campus.  The plates were absolutely huge and offered a variety meats, macaroni and cheese and apple crisp.

In class on Tuesday we spoke about thinking in pictures and drafted pictures of ourselves with descriptive adjectives added in around the picture.  We spoke about the benefits of putting these pictures somewhere that we could see them in our homes.  This picture will allow the students to have positive thoughts about themselves and give them ideas as to what to speak about in an interview.

On Wednesday the students completed a writing assignment about their dreams and their future.  They also continued working on their pictures and we spent some time outside soaking up the beautiful weather.

Thursday brought another day in the classroom.  The students were given real life scenarios that discussed job opportunities and personal schedules.  The students had to decide which job would be best for the student's current situation.  There were many differing views on what was the best choice for the student, so we realize that there was no right answer to

May the dreams of your past,
become the reality of your future.
